2021 George & Donna Burdick Business Award

MCCF honors generosity of Fiorillo's Restaurant on October 21st

Santa Clara, Calif. - 09/17/2021 - Our Greater Giving Local Focus charity event will return virtually on Thursday, October 21 starting online at 5:00 p.m. Mission City Community Fund will present the 2021 George & Donna Burdick Business Award to the Fiorillo Family for their warmth and generosity helping people and making life better in Santa Clara.

Natives of Brooklyn, New York, Vince and his beloved wife Elaine Fiorillo made Silicon Valley their home in 1972 and brought their Italian American style of cooking and family recipes to local customers so they could relax and enjoy the best dishes made with pride, full of old world flavors for those who love to eat. From their delicatessen, to making pizza, to an Italian restaurant & banquet facilities, the Fiorillos worked seven days a week to give families and friends a place to gather and celebrate birthdays, parties, anniversaries and holidays. "Vince and Elaine were always there to greet you with open arms, wonderful meals and great conversation", remembers Robin Burdick, MCCF Board member.

Vince was the main chef and while he was fun-loving and gregarious, he and his wife were private about their generosity to others. They never forgot where they came from and were there whenever there was a need to fill - for local churches, Kaiser Hospital, youth programs like Pop Warner, PAL soccer, and Little League. Their four children often hear touching stories about their parents over the years on how they would help with food for the hungry, medication or bills for an elder member of the community, funeral costs for a family who couldn't afford the expense, giving Christmas trees to families that needed them or simply cash from their pockets - all of these covered quietly with no fanfare or need for recognition.

Son Michael Fiorillo and daughter Renee Fiorillo Kelly continue to run the restaurant and during the early weeks of the pandemic they quickly reached out to the City of Santa Clara to help donate food for the elderly, wanting to bring the community together. They regularly donate food to StandUp for Kids-Silicon Valley and support annual charity fundraising to help homeless and at-risk kids and young adults. Vince, Elaine and their children have made outstanding contributions to the community and worked to significantly enhance the lives of others making the Fiorillo's Restaurant deserving of the 2021 George & Donna Burdick Business Award.
