Mission City Community Fund selects Nonprofit of the Year - College of Adaptive Arts

Virtual presentation celebrating 10+ years on October 21

Santa Clara, Calif. - 09/16/2021 - Mission City Community Fund will honor the College of Adaptive Arts (CAA) as the Nonprofit of the Year at their virtual Charity Event Greater Giving Local Focus on Thursday, October 21 starting at 5:00pm. The Nonprofit of the Year partner represents outstanding accomplishments by a nonprofit organization using their programs and services to enrich the lives of local residents in Silicon Valley. Funds raised will help support CAA which was selected based on the following:

  • Reputation for leadership excellence within the nonprofit and local communities
  • Successful achievement within our Five Areas of Giving
  • Consistent performance and high ethical standards for management

"We are delighted to recognize College of Adaptive Arts as our 2021 Nonprofit of the Year celebrating 10 years of lifelong collegiate experiences for adults with special needs," commented MCCF Chair, Anne Kepner. "Grants to CAA continue to strengthen a model of accessible and robust education at their new Swenson Flagship Campus at West Valley College, with MCCF funds dedicated to the Video Desk, Digital Media Lab, Digital Marketing Video Equipment, and now Digital Signage at their new site, all to empower the student body to creatively transform the way the world views individuals with disabilities and how to replicate on every campus of higher learning across the world."

College of Adaptive Arts

CAA empowers adults with special needs to creatively transform perception of disability through the arts and is the first model of its kind in the country with plans to become as widespread and robust in the education space that the Special Olympics provide in the athletic space. Started in 2009, this institution of higher learning allows individuals to channel their passion and achieve competency in an arts discipline such as the fine arts, dance, theatre, digital arts and video/television as well as in the academic disciplines of Communications, Science & Technology, Library Arts and Health and Wellness. Adult students taking over 75+ course offerings in 10 Schools of Instruction with opportunities to learn from a diverse and rich curriculum that will enable them to live a full and empowered life as successful, contributing members of the community.

Mission City Community Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed in 1986 providing over $3.7 million in local grants - including $130,000 in 2020 for COVID-19 response efforts - focused on Five Areas of Giving: Education, Social Services, Health Care, Theater and the Arts, and the Environment. Their annual Charity Event Greater Giving Local Focus happening virtually on October 21, 2021, starts online at 5:00 p.m. and will offer inspiring stories, silent auction items, and awards for community leaders as a fundraiser to establish grants for local nonprofits.
